Jonathon Church was born in New South Wales on 1 September 1963. He enlisted in the Army Reserve on 5 November 1989. He underwent SAS selection in 1993, transferred to the Australian Regular Army and was posted to SASR on 26 November 1993. Jon came from 1 Commando Regiment with the rank of Private on posting to SASR. Jon died on 12 June 1996 when two Black Hawk helicopters crashed at the High Range training area near Townsville in Queensland. Jon’s next-of-kin at the time of his death was his father.
