Lachlan Martin was born in South Australia on 10 June 1972. He enlisted in the Army on 27 August 1991 and was allocated to the Royal Australian Signals. He underwent SAS selection in 1995 and was posted to SASR on 28 June 1995. Lachlan came from 103 Signals Squadron with the rank of Signaller on posting to SASR. Lachlan died in a parachuting accident at Bindoon drop zone in Western Australia on 14 May 1996. He was rehearsing a demonstration parachute descent for a visit by the Defence Force Remuneration Tribunal. Lachlan’s next-of-kin at the time of his death was his mother.
