PTE DAVID JOHN ELKINGTON FISHER

After many years of missing in action David's remains were found and repatriated to Australia on 10 October 2008. He was 23 when killed.David was born in London in 1946. He was Volunteer National Serviceman and commenced his War Service as a reinforcement with 2 SAS Squadron and then continued on with 3 SAS Squadron. David’s Last Post Ceremony was officiated by MAJGEN Dan McDaniel, the CO SASR when David was repatriated to Australia, and attended by his family, SAS Vietnam veterans and AWM, ASASA and SOCOMD representatives. During the ceremony John Schumann of Reg Gum fame performed a moving rendition of “I was only nineteen”. The family were well represented by David’s sisters, brothers in law and nieces and nephews.
