Peter underwent SAS selection in 1975 and was posted to SASR on 11 February 1976. Pee Wee came from 1 Commando Company with the rank of Private on posting to SASR and he transferred to the Australian Regular Army.

Pee Wee died on 10 October 1980 when he was accidentally shot while participating in counter terrorism training at Swanbourne Western Australia. Pee Wee’s next-of-kin at the time of his death was his father.
