Darren Oldham was born in Victoria on 23 October 1966. He enlisted in the Army on 18 March 1987 and was allocated to the Royal Australian Infantry. He underwent SAS selection in 1991 and was posted to SASR on 24 May 1991. Darren came from 2/4th Battalion Royal Australian Regiment with the rank of Lance Corporal but reverted to Trooper on posting to SASR. Darren died on 12 June 1996 when two Black Hawk helicopters crashed at High Range training area near Townsville in Queensland. Darren’s next-of-kin at the time of his death was his wife.
